So after taking a few days to think about what to blog about next, I thought it would be a good idea to let you in on one important thing:
I'm a pantser when it comes to writing and most things in life.
I don't make outlines, plans, etc. I like to see how a story (or life) evolves organically over time on a spontaneous basis. This leads to many "happy" accidents when writing (and living) and "EUREKA!" moments.
When pansting works, it's like:
and
When it doesn't, I can feel like I'm and and
I've tried to outline and plan before, but I deviate from these things almost immediately as if my very being rebels against restricting my creativity or options.
Or maybe I'm just easily distracted... oh, look!
So, I've decided to have a very un-plan for this blog.
I'll make posts whenever I feel like it, but will try my best to create at least two posts a week.
I'll write about whatever comes to mind and try to make it entertaining and/or informative. Some posts will be about the writing craft, others about topics in children's literature, and some will be completely random thoughts that leak out of my head.
So there you have it. My panster blog plan for the future domination of the internet.

You found the way to work, Joseph. I have, also, only I'm an amalgam. I have an outline, but leave the details to spontaneous streams. I get much joy form this aspect, but do not have the courage to venture without a map.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you've found a way that works for you. That's the wonderful thing about creativity. It comes in all shapes, forms, and fashions. Good luck with your stories!
DeleteBest Wishes,
Joseph
Hey, for a minute, I thought I was on the blueboards with the fireworks and bunny and all. I've been blogging for years and just like in real life, it's a mix of everything -- you know, life. I'm glad you have an un-plan :)
ReplyDeleteHey, Vijaya!
DeleteGlad to see blue boarders here... and yes, I do like the blue board emoticons. So I'm borrowing them to liven up the blog.
Best Wishes,
Joseph
Hi Joe. Should be a great blog. I look forward to reading it.

Thanks, Rob!
DeleteHope you're having a happy New Year.
I try not to be a random writer, I try to outline, or at least have some vague idea of where my story might go before I start writing, but then a character will just pop up out of nowhere, demanding to be heard - and so I listen. That's pretty much my writing process:) I think the whole thing might be a little speedier for writers who can follow a basic outline, but I'm more the meandering type, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that's how any outline I worked on would go... right out the window as soon as characters start meeting and doing things together. ;)
DeleteDedicated panster here too! I start out with main characters, the central conflict, and maybe some general idea of pacing, but that's about all I can plan before I start digging into a first draft. It's much more fun if I let things fly.
ReplyDeleteAs for blogging, I post when I have news or something vaguely fun to talk about. I try to save my writing energy for book things.
Yay, for pansters! I agree that it's a lot more fun and the "Aha!" moments are awesome to experience when suddenly a hidden connection comes to light.
DeleteThanks for swinging by!
Best Wishes,
Joseph
